About

The Full Story

The Vernoga Family Farm was founded in 1926 by Stephen Vernoga. Not having any children of his own, Stephen called his brother, who lived in Croatia, and asked him to send his oldest son to California to help him on the farm. Ned Vernoga made the journey to California in 1962 when he was 14 years old. Ned went to school, learned English, played sports, went to college, got married, and had two children. His son, Matt Vernoga, began working on the farm as a child and has never left. Matt now has a wife and three children of his own. Matt began a custom farming business in 2012 so he could farm his neighbors ranchettes. By word of mouth, he has expanded his business throughout Durham and into Chico. Matts honesty, integrity, tenacity, and knowledge is what sets him a part from the rest. His goal is to build long term relationships with his clients, and take care of their orchards and fields the same way he, his father, and great uncle have taken care of their own.
